Screening tests

Essential screening tests help detect issues and can also help prevent potential problems. 97% of women survive breast cancer when it’s caught early.5 Same-day test results for mammograms also means faster diagnosis and treatment. And early screening for cervical cancer significantly increases survival rates.

All members are screened during every visit to the doctor, including routine eye exams. This means we can take corrective action immediately, if needed.

Chronic care

If you’re at risk of facing a potential health problem — like diabetes, high blood pressure, or persistent pain — we have programs designed to help you before you develop a chronic condition. Learn more about Kaiser Permanente’s approach to chronic care here.

Healthy aging

Our physicians develop relationships with each of their patients, so we understand what makes you uniquely you. This helps us better support your health through all stages of your life. Your care team provides care that adjusts as you age, focusing more on prevention and treating conditions related to aging, such as osteoporosis.

Equitable care

We support and deliver equitable care for all women. We recognize the challenges that many women of color, particularly Black women, face when it comes to health care. Kaiser Permanente has always provided fair, equitable care to all women, and will continue to work toward health equity for all.

Coordinated care

Kaiser Permanente’s coordinated, team-based approach to care enables our primary care physicians, ob-gyns, nurses, clinical technicians, pharmacists, and more to work seamlessly together. We have over 1,700 physicians, including specialists, to provide women with the right care in the right place at the right time.

Routine screenings

We check your vitals at every appointment, including blood pressure, heart rate, and body weight. If you’re considered at-risk for diabetes, you’re also screened for prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Regular screenings are just one of the ways Kaiser Permanente helps our members stay on top of their health.

Technology

We use the latest in high-tech equipment to detect breast cancer as accurately and quickly as possible, including 2D mammograms, 3D mammograms for those with dense breast tissue, breast ultrasounds, and breast MRIs. Results for 2D mammograms performed at Kaiser Permanente facilities may be available as soon as 30 to 60 minutes after screening and are provided during regular office hours Monday through Friday.

Our state-of-the art detection tools such as CT and CAT scans allow us to capture images of the structure of the heart and heart arteries to diagnose and treat cardiac conditions.

Telehealth

If you have any health concerns that don’t require an in-person visit, you can see your doctor or specialist by video visit, or even send a photo of a health matter, such as a rash or eye issue. If an urgent health issue arises, we also offer a full range of convenient virtual care options available 24/7. This includes phone visits, video visits, e-visits, chat, and secure messaging.7 Learn more about these flexible treatment options here.

Cancer care

If you receive a cancer diagnosis, your care is personalized for your specific health needs — and for your life. You and your family are active participants in all decisions about treatments, surgeries, and emotional support. After evaluating your case, we’ll explore any new breakthrough treatments, clinical trials, and procedures for your specific type of cancer, and recommend options that best suit your needs.

This helps explain why Kaiser Permanente’s breast cancer survival rates are higher than the national average: for black women, 91% vs. 82%, and for white women, 97% vs. 91%.10 Learn more.
